I was reading in Matthew 5 lately and thinking about verse 43 and 44…
43. You have heard that it was said, “You shall love your neighbour and hate your enemy.” 44. But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you.
Wow that’s quiet a list Christ gives us:
- Love your enemies.
- Bless those who curse you.
- Do good to those who hate you.
- Pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you.
Each one of those responses are the exact opposite of what my natural man wants to do. And if we are really honest about it this is going to take more than just natural discipline to pull off. We are going to need the grace of God.
This is one of the very reasons that the Father has sent the Holy Spirit to live in all those who ask for Him. With the Holy Spirit came the power to be His witnesses and to do as Christ has asked of us. The Holy Spirit will will help us learn and give us strength to put down our flesh and to live out of our spirit. Then we can learn to Love, Bless, Do Good, and Pray as Christ commanded.
